CTWLCW

The upcoming Modern Design auction at Wright20 has some interesting items going under the hammer. Among them this one-off table constructed at the Eames office of existing furniture parts (CTW table top and LCW spines used as legs). This was made for a visit by the chairman of IBM in the 60's. Charles and Ray must've had the day off when they whipped up this one, 'cause I don't think this was a very clever idea...

Estimate: $4000-6000...

Rockabilly

Over on the excellent blog Today's Inspiration (about illustration from the 50's and 60's) they had a big write up on Mitchell Hooks recently. It made me dig up some pocketbooks from my collection with covers he made. Among them was "Rockabilly" by Harlan Ellison. Great cover! Enjoy!

George Nelson

There are 3 good reasons to start this thing off with George Nelson.
1. He is one of my all-time favorite designers.
2. The Vitra design museum in Weil Am Rhein (Germany) starts a big exhibition about his work today. It runs till March 1.
3. I recently bought this chair (see picture) designed by him. I've been wanting this for years so I'm happy as a clam. This is the european version (with Eames designed LaFonda base) produced in the sixties by Herman Miller and quite rare.
